Do not miss the new installment of the Blog of the companions of Adidas Paddle. On this occasion, we can read the second article by Rubén Castilla, a paddle player adapted in a wheelchair who will tell us about 'all the good' that paddle can bring for people with any type of disability.

Padel World Press .- If sport is beneficial for anyone, in the case of people with disabilities it gives us a very important extra both physically and emotionally ...

In people with reduced mobility it is very important to have a good handiness of the chair For the use of it in daily life and playing paddle tennis, it is perfect to achieve good handling of the chair as it is a very fast game and in not very large dimensions where numerous turns, starts, brakes are made, which forces you to move the chair very fast and in all directions to get to the balls.

This skill that is acquired within the track is then extrapolated, as I said before, to day-to-day on the street where there are numerous architectural barriers. It is very important to maintain an adequate physical shape and by practice of paddle we get our muscles to be strong and prepared avoiding possible injuries. In addition, the practice of padel sharpens our reflexes a lot since the reaction time in a chair is less than that of anyone who plays on foot and this makes us much more alert.

For all this, the practice of paddle tennis in people with disabilities provides innumerable benefits that I want to share with all of you.

- On a physical level, muscle strength is increased, we increase the range of movement, we improve balance and coordination between upper limbs, we work the gross motor, the grip (blade paddle and ball), the precision of movements and muscle tone in each moment of the game to have a greater knowledge of the body scheme.

- At a cognitive level, it makes us work some essential aspects that can help us off the track, on a day-to-day basis: improving attention, concentration, perception, memory, problem solving, etc. ...

- At a psychosocial level: we develop a multitude of aspects related to social skills, such as waiting for the corresponding turn, values of companionship, improving interpersonal relationships, accepting the rules of the game and respecting others with assertiveness. Improved mood, increased social relationships and full social integration that the club offers, enjoying the game and having fun. In short, a totally therapeutic game.

From my own experience I can say that paddle tennis for people with disabilities brings countless benefits and most importantly: it makes many people who perhaps did not practice sport before have found in the paddle on chair a way of relating, exchanging experiences and stories, sharing hobbies, traveling ... In short, being part of an active way of a collective that has more and more players and with time is increasingly present in numerous events and media. communication.

On a personal level, wheelchair paddle tennis has provided me with benefits from the first day I started practicing it both physically and psychologically and above all, the possibility of helping other people get started in this exciting sport by sharing really special moments.

I encourage anyone with a disability and wanting to do some sporting activity that does not hesitate to try playing paddle tennis, start take the shovel and to enjoy the benefits that this fantastic sport brings us.

Greetings and see you in the next post.

Rubén Castilla.
