Reviewing our archive, we find this interesting article by Jordi Riba. The prestigious physiotherapist, through its space in the pages of World Paddle Tour, spoke on this occasion about some of the most common ailments in the practice of any type of sports discipline.

Padel World Press .- Member of the group consisting of top-level professionals selected by World Paddle Tour to share their experiences and reflections with all the fans of this wonderful sport, the man who takes care of the best players in the world during the tournament. Professional Circuit explains what they are and why the 'cramps' occur ...

You should not miss it !!

"In the field of organic chemistry, water is known as the universal solvent. The organism of a mammal, in this case a professional paddle player, regulates its body temperature through sweating, a mechanism by which it also eliminates the huge amount of toxins that generate the effort, mobility and concentration of this beautiful sport .

In this sense, there are different factors that influence positively and negatively on that ability to regulate temperature and eliminate toxins. First we will talk about the extrinsic ones, of which we can not control, such as the environmental heat, (Club or Pavilion), the relative humidity (% of water in the air), height and proximity of the population where it is celebrated with respect to sea (heavier ball) ... All these factors, if they are in favor, make the game more fluid, less sacrificial and require less physical and mental capacity of the player ... OR on the contrary!

It is in this case when the cause No. 1 appears by which the Physio of the World Padel Tour appears on track: the cramps.

To the environmental or extrinsic factors mentioned above, we will add the following, all of them possible to train under the supervision of a professional:

Main Factors

  • Physical condition of the player (athletic ability or physical preparation).
  • Mental capacity during the game (ability to manage emotional tension).
  • Nutrition.
  • Recuperadora Drink during the competition.

When the Fisio goes out on track usually the following table is found:

  • Player with the musculature in tetanization, that is, he contracts to the maximum of his capacity but he is not able to relax.
  • Anxiety that produces.
  • Negative thinking about suffering injuries and not being able to finish the game.
  • Urgency in the premise in the treatment.

How should the Physio act in these cases?

  • Do not get carried away by the player's anxiety and control the situation on an emotional level.
  • Do not worry the same one with too many instructions / information about your status.
  • Reassure him at all times without creating false expectations.
  • Indoctrinate him how he should move and where his physical limit will be in the next few minutes.

Treatment: What is the plan?

When the Fisio is called to the track, it completely does not know what the player who has requested it suffers, although while the match is being held it must be permanent observing the reactions of the players and after so many matches, years and tournaments ... We already know each other !! But it's always a surprise...

At that time the Physiotherapist must diagnose and prepare a possible solution while walking the path of his bank to the players. When he arrives there he confirms or discards the diagnosis.

Rule of the 3 minutes

The Physio has 3 minutes to create a treatment plan, a solution. In the case of cramps we use the base of the psychological work previously commented while asking about how cramps have started, in which muscle areas, whether they are intermittent or not, if they are travelers (they change their muscular region or stay in the same area), what they have eaten, what they are drinking to hydrate and in some cases (when they are strictly emotional), we try to "travel" to another place, a personal one, one positive that they have told us in the dressing room (an old situation overcome, remind them that they are well trained, a romantic date, the achievement of a goal whether sporting or not ...) ... The fundamental thing is to bring the mind to a reality positive.

Meanwhile, my hands are working ...

Off the court we would try to lower the temperature of that muscle and calm it but on the track we need the muscle to stay warm, so we apply one of these 2 measures or sometimes both:

Treatment: Massage and Pressotherapy

  • The mixture of Flogosport RED y Flogoprofen en Sprays in the cramped area.
  • Apply a medium diameter suction cup with high pressure to generate local hypoxia.
  • Manual techniques to favor the emptying of blood toxins.
  • Final relaxation massage of the area, with Flogosport RED.

Hydration Herbalife

  • Generate Hydrating view according to the needs of the moment. If you are sweating too much and only drink water, we recommend a drink with a high content of mineral salts, with a% markedly higher than% of water, in order to favor the ability to retain water
  • We recommend the intake of nuts (almonds, walnuts and hazelnuts) accompanied by raisins (high energy content) or the use of Herbalife supplements or drink that are usually ingested but more charged in minerals as we have already said.

Dry Puncture and Massage

  • We can apply dry puncture in the trigger point of the blocked muscle, (we must be very careful not to inhibit the capacity of this producing too much relaxation, careful to apply it because it is in maximum emotional and muscular tension and makes our touch difficult), find in the palpation the trigger point that generates the taut band of the tetanized muscle (in competition is difficult), choose and apply the needle according to the density and the degree of tension of the muscle to be treated, tense the fascia that covers it and produce the relaxation of that muscle band or tape that blocks it.
  • It is the one that I prefer most times and it is at the same time the most effective, but it can not be used in all players.

Conclusion: The cramps start at 'home', so hydrate properly, with the same product that we ingest in training, be advised at a nutritional level, be well trained physically and mentally and manage our physical condition in adverse weather conditions.
