Do not miss this interesting article from the Adidas Paddle Blog. Very recurrent theme among fans and practitioners of this wonderful sport, there are different 'options' that can be very useful depending on the type of beating to perform.

Padel WorldPress .- On some other occasion we have seen in this blog how to take the shovel and os we talked about the handles, but more focused on the Initiation Level. This time we want to take one more step and we are going to talk about some variants when using the grip in some game situations, which can help you when hitting.

The way we hold the paddle of paddle it can be limiting or empowering of many aspects related to the game. It can promote our improvement, avoid injuries, facilitate simple and effective play. In short, an aspect that is easy to control from day one and that can provide us with great advantages in our walk if we follow a logical process.

Our first advice is clear and concrete: use handles that facilitate progress and avoid complications.

For excellence and general consensus, the handle used to start in the paddle and, in turn, the most used is the continental. Why? There are several factors that make it the 'Universal Grip' when starting to play paddle tennis. It is applicable with enough adaptability to forehand and backhand blows, the short reaction time means that we can respond earlier and better with the same grip. We ensure a solid and correct point of impact with small adaptations of the movement in the wrist and elbow joint.

Handle Changes: Why? For what?

Once our level stabilizes, and we gain control over our basic strokes, it may be time to learn how to make small changes in our way of holding the shovel. From the continental grip we will make small adjustments that bring us closer to the 'East from right' and 'East from reverse' handles. These grips are achieved by rotating the blade shaft in the clockwise direction or vice versa. The result, as you can see in the images, is the orientation of the face of the paddle that hits the ball. This slight orientation will help you to better control the height of the ball exit after impact.

The variants of the handle

From here, once we have indicated these small adjustments, we are going to give you some brief tips to apply in specific situations of game and that, in certain occasions, they can help you depending on the type of blow that you want to execute.

Volleys

On the web we usually teach to use the same grip for forehand and backhand. It's the 'East backhand' handle. This makes it easier for us to avoid changes of the grip but it facilitates an ideal backhand hit and a forehand hit that will give us a good load of plane-cut (avoid that the face of the blade opens excessively to the sky).

The initiation of the coup Tray We will do it with a progression from the volley hit. Start by turning completely on your side, the head of the shovel will be slightly above eye level and the point of impact to the ball will be slightly behind the head, slightly in front of the right shoulder. Be careful with excessive shifts to the 'Backhand East'. If the blade is very open (towards the sky) we run the risk of sending the ball directly to the bottom glass. A little trick: Advance the point of impact slightly without changing the grip. Thus we will achieve a greater cutting load.

Top tops

In this shot, it is advisable to adapt our grip towards a 'backhand East' and we can even find players who hit with a more closed grip. The goal is to give the ball more topspin effect so that it come out for three more easily.

Defense against very low balls in the background glass

In these balls do not be afraid to open the face of your shovel in an exaggerated way. The goal is to facilitate bottom-up impact. Bend your knees, open the face of the paddle, enter under the ball to extend your knees and perform a shot from the bottom up, achieving safe balloons.
