For the fifteenth month, the companions of the Digital Magazine TopPádel 360º have decided to test the knowledge 'sufferers' and the rules of this sport of fans ... Will you be able to give the right answer to the question posed to us?

Padel World Press .- This case happened to some players of my padel club and they could not reach an agreement. One of them ran towards the net to return a shot, and, after hitting the ball, not to touch the net with his body and maintain balance, he leaned with the paddle in the opposite field. He remained forming an inverted U with his body, with his feet in his part of the field, the body above the net, the outstretched arm and the shovel resting on the opposite field.

What happens then?

a) The player loses the point, by touching with the paddle the opposite field, if the ball was still in play when doing it.

b) As the network has not touched, the point is still in play.

c) The player loses the point, even if the ball had taken two pots in the opposite field.

d) The rules do not contemplate such a case. You should decide on an arbitrator and, if there is not one, declare a let and repeat the point.

CORRECT ANSWER:

a) The player loses the point, by touching with the paddle the opposite field, if the ball was still in play when doing it.

Although it is a very simple case, and contemplated in a specific way in the Rules, those who raised it to me are habitual players and of quite high level. This shows that many discussions or doubts on the track are basic issues that would be solved only by having read the Regulation, which, on the other hand, is quite simple and reduced.

Rule 13 (Lost Point), in its 'Section a)' says: "A pair will lose the both if a player, his shovel or any other object that he carries with him, touches any part of the network or the terrain of the part of the opposite field while the ball is in play ".

In that sense, it is clear that it does not matter if the net is not touched because you can not touch the opposite field either.

Of course, this only applies if the ball is in play. That is, if the player makes the return and the point ends (the ball bounces twice on the ground, for example), nothing happens if the net is touched or the opposite field later, since the point would be finished.
