Who else who least throughout his life has said that "I'm contracted." Do not miss this interesting article offered by the companions of the Blog MyPádel by DKV Seguros.

Padel World Press .- Contractures can affect different areas of the body but always have one element in common: the muscles.

How they are produced

The muscle is formed by muscular fibers that are grouped giving rise to muscles of greater or smaller size. When some or all of these fibers increase their tone continuously and involuntarily we speak of contracture.

Possible causes

Its causes can range from a postural problem, to overexertion, to functional problems. What happens is that the muscle adapts to the situation of the moment, which is usually inappropriate. The answer is the appearance of pain, together with impotence (lack of response) and the presence of a 'lump' that, in general, hurts on palpation.

How are they treated

The treatment consists of acting on the painful area with local application of heat since it has an analgesic and anti-inflammatory effect. In a coadjuvant way, anti-inflammatory drugs but, especially myorelaxing drugs, act by relaxing the muscle fibers. Recall, therefore, that these must be prescribed by a doctor.

Massage is appropriate when the most acute phase of pain has passed and you want to act to reduce the level of contracture.

As for prevention, it will be essential to know what the cause was, the origin. If it has been due to overexertion, avoid repeating it. If the cause is functional (for example, a limb dysmetria problem), it must be corrected from the base, but this requires consultation and assessment by a specialist. Incorrect postures during long hours are a very common cause and that with a better postural hygiene tend to evolve positive.

Stretching and exercises to improve muscle flexibility are valid recommendations for those who do not want to suffer a contracture.
