Nela Brito and Vale Pavón, time brings two great friends back together

She is one of the players with the most beautiful smile of the Women's Circuit. Always friendly, attentive to every detail with an appearance that is all sweetness, inside the court becomes a true warrior, who does not give a single ball for lost.

Combative, nonconformist and very fighter, Nela Brito faces an 2014 full of changes. Not only will she play in the OchoPádel team, but she will also change partner and join Valeria Pavón with the firm objective of consolidating her position among the best couples in the world.

How and when did the possibility of playing with Vale arise?

The possibility of playing together arose after the WPT Valencia dispute. After that tournament, Cata and Vale, who had been together for several years, decided to separate and that's when everything began to unleash.

What does it mean for you to play with someone like her?

For me, playing with Vale means many things. I always wanted that we had the opportunity to play together again. In my case, it's like dream again, again have the illusion that we share in our first year in Spain, when we came with the ticket paid for our sponsor and hungry to win to reach us money to stay. I remember many anecdotes, like playing the tournament of Bilbao from the Pre-Preview, a Monday because we had no points and reach the final, and play our first World Cup and finalists ... There are a thousand memories and, for me, the best of my career. To play with Vale again is to relive all that.

What can you contribute to your game and what can she contribute to yours?

Vale and I have known each other for years and we each know our strengths. We are very seasoned and experienced. In my opinion, she is one of the most ready players on the Circuit, with incredible physical potential. I think our game will be very tactical. Both she and I think a lot and we are aware that we will depend on the 100% of our physical state.

On the other hand, I would like to say that there is not much to contribute to Vale. If she is centered it is very difficult for her rival to know what she is going to do. In that sense, what I can bring you is peace of mind in the psychological aspect. As we have played together before, we both know what we need at each moment of the game, even when we have to talk to each other or not, hahaha. I think that's why we did so well when we were together. The assurance that she gives me is that if we propose something ... we are going to die for it !! Achieving that as a couple is something that sometimes costs ...

What challenges and objectives do you set for 2014?

As I said in an interview that was done recently, now be among the 6 best pairs is what it was before being among the 4. Our first and great goal will be to be in the Masters but, of course, always aspires to more and enter the 4 first pairs of the ranking would be ideal.

How do you rate the season lived with Marta Marrero?

Well, the season with Marta can be evaluated in different ways. It all depends on how you look at it. If we focus on the final result, we start the year as a 8 couple and end up as 6. In that sense, it's not bad.

If we focus on the results, at least in my case it was not as expected. Although we had several pairs of the first 4 with very fair results, as a 7-6 in the tercet Set Against Carol and Ceci, we could never close any party ... that in the end you will be eating the head, although I must admit That was our first year together.

What can we expect the fans of the 2014 season in the Women's Circuit?

Well, I think it will be very good. I calculate that everything will be very even and that it will be very entertaining. Already in 2013, and from the second round, you could see spectacular games, in which the first seeds had to be used thoroughly to win. It's not a topic ... This is getting better every year.

How was the first experience of the players in the new Professional Circuit?

It is clear that each one will see it from their point of view and, of course, with their interests involved. I am one of those who thinks that there are always good and bad things. Ideally, have a few more tests. In 2013 there were 7 and this, at least, there will be 9. Anyway, we must also thank that we have a circuit.

Is the woman the great forgotten of the world of paddle?

I do not know if that happens only in the world of paddle. I think the same thing happens in all sports. Women also play soccer, tennis and thousands of other sports, although it seems that only men played. Therefore, I think that what is given in the paddle is something that happens in general in all disciplines. I do not doubt that men have a strength and a spectacular physical display, that they do things that for a woman is almost impossible ... All that sells a lot. Against that, we can not do anything and it is clear that if something sells and is presented as a good business, everyone is the owner of investing their money in what they want.

How and when did the option to join the Ochopadel team arise?

The opportunity arose when I finished my contract with Star Vie at the end of 2013. From what was my brand they told me that it was not yet clear if they would renew me or not and, for that reason, I told him that I would start moving with the brands. It was they who told me there was a new firm named OchoPádel was betting on women's paddle, so my agent got in touch with them and the next day we were in touch.

What led you to accept his offer?

Well, to be honest, what led me to accept his offer was that it was a brand that could be more protagonist. At that time, they only had one player and, truthfully, that was something that interested me a lot. Then, when I entered the page of OchoPádel, I loved the clothing models ... I found them beautiful. I also saw that for years they were in golf and I realized that it was a serious firm, which for me is very important.

What do you think about their blades and their textile?

Well, from the first moment I saw the catalog on the web, I loved it. All the expectations were exceeded when I went to the office and they gave me the clothes. The feeling was indescribable because the quality of the textile is incredible. The finishes of the clothes and the details are spectacular.

So I would tell them that when there is a girls' tournament they come to watch the games, not only from the semifinals ... They can also approach the clubs where the tournament starts from the round of 16 and quarters because now the matches are not as they are a few years ago, where a lot of the balloon was sometimes abused and there were few that defined or played with speed ... The level of the girls has gone up a lot, there are more players who are training and who are dedicating more time to this sport, what there are many beautiful, entertaining encounters ...
