The main draw of the Granada Open officially began and with that the surprises started. In a day of sixteenths played entirely this Wednesday there have been several results against prognosis that have shaken the inaugural round of this tournament World Padel Tour.
And it is that, for more signs, the great majority of surprising results have been carried out by couples that, a priori, had their top in this round of sixteen of final. Some of the pairs from the previous ones have left theoretically favorite couples on the way.
The first to give the bell would be Raúl Marcos and Christian Fuster. The Spanish pair was measured to a new one, formed by Maxi Grabiel and Federico Quiles. Although they only had options to achieve the pass, they would be able to defeat the Argentine duo in two sets by 6-4 and 7-5.
The same script would follow Antonio Luque and Borja Yribarren and before imposing Álvaro Cepero and Sebastián Nerone. With a devastating start and an outstanding temperance in the third set, they managed to defeat the tenth pair of the Granada Open by 6-0, 3-6 and 6-4.
By midday it would be the turn of Federico Chingotto and Juan Tello. The pair of young Argentine promises has been relegated to the role of 'previous' after the injuries this season, but it would not be an impediment to eliminate Agustín Gómez Silingo and Marcello Jardim. In two sets and with remarkable authority they resolved the first match of four by 6-4 and 6-3.
Without having come from the previous one, but also surprising the locals and strangers, they would achieve the pass Jorge Nieto and Javier Rico. The two young Spanish talents had a hard debut against Adrián Allemandi and Fernando Poggi and would be victorious almost against all odds. In three sets and overcoming difficult moments were made with the match by 3-6, 7-6 and 2-6.
Juan Martín Díaz and Juán Lebron debut with victory
The highlight of the rest of the day was the debut of one of the new couples at the end of the year. Juan Martín Díaz and Juan Lebrón made an appearance in the midday meeting at noon and they would do it with a good footing.
In a presumably hard debut against Rafa Méndez and Diego Ramos, one of the fashion couples of the World Padel Tour and protagonist of great surprises, Lebrón and Díaz would draw their best paddle to get the ticket for the last eight.
They took the first set with a solitary 'break' to, later, deploy their best paddle on the center court of the Granada Open and take the second sleeve and the match with a resounding 6-1.
