Nito Brea Analysis Sheet

Tournament: WPT Córdoba 2014.

Ronda: Men's Final.

Game: Diaz-Belasteguín vs Lima-Mieres.

A first assessment

To begin, and without doing much more than adding the 'Winning Points' of each pair and relate them both with 'Unforced Errors' and with 'Forced Errors', you can see a clear difference in favor of the Kings. The current 1 number in the world got 76 Points for their opponents' 53, while they had less' Unforced Errors' (28 for 30) but they made some more 'Forced Errors' (26 against 21).

One of the data that caught the attention of Nito Brea was the large number of Winning Points achieved by Bela, compared to her Unforced Errors. This difference serves to give an idea of its effectiveness in the definition when considering that, at these professional levels, a large part of the Unforced Errors are positive or, what is the same, are committed when trying to find the definition of the point. If a PG - ENF calculation is made, we obtain 27 from Bela, 21 from Juan Martín, 17 Juani and 6 from Pablo ... Here we have the first sign of the superiority that there was in this encounter.

We go to the service

Focusing on the serves, it did not take long to see that Pablo Lima was the player who suffered the most breaks against (4 out of 10) while, at the opposite end, Bela did not suffer any break in any of his 9 serves. As Nito assured, the effectiveness of Belasteguín in his serve (as we have already seen in other tournaments), not only indicates that he serves very well but also that he has an always attentive Martín on the net waiting of the rest… An explosive combination: a great serve with Juan well planted is not the most advisable way to start a point quietly.

Once again, Bela once again had the lowest average number of serves needed to close the games (5,4) and Juani the highest (7,7). That figure comes from dividing the number of serves served by the number of games in which they served. With this, we confirm that 40-40 is rarely reached when Belasteguín serves, quite the opposite of what Mieres does with the longest games of the duel.

PadelStat coefficient

Considering the PadelStat coefficient (value between + 150 and -150 with which the individual performance of each player in the game is measured), we see how Juan Martín obtained the highest valuation with 55, followed by Bela with 47. His opponents got both the same score: 39.

A very interesting fact, with which we can draw another conclusion from the statistics, is that although we saw earlier that Fernando Belasteguín had achieved the best numbers between PG - ENF, in this case it was his partner who achieved the best PadelStat coefficient ... The reading: that Juan was more precise than Bela in the important points of commitment, those who decide the games. The algorithm of the calculation of the coefficient takes these circumstances into account.

How were the points earned?

How could it be otherwise, now we will see the composition of winning shots of all players.

Juan Martín made the difference with clarity in the Volleys (19 PG) and Bela with the Smash (25 PG). It is a classic that repeats analysis after analysis. As for Juani, he stood out with his smash (17 PG) and Pablo did not have any spikes or many Winning Points (6 PG from smash and 5 with the volleys).

What do those statistics tell us? That there was a large weight difference in the airspace between the couples. Lima-Mieres tried to avoid Juan Martín in the smash (he only won 5 smash, without any ENF in this shot), and they played Bela more but, in this case, the remedy was worse than the disease ...
