I suppose you will be very happy to be able to represent your country again on such an important date?
Yes, very happy to be on that list that, as has been seen, is full of great players. I trust to be able to enter, next to my sister if it is possible, in the definitive call, something that would be all a pride.
You have had a special idyll with the selection. World Champion in your first presence, that was repeated in the next appearance in 2014. How did you live those successes?
I personally like the team competition a lot… Maybe it is my favorite and I enjoy it a lot, even more so if you can go representing your country. In addition, each year is different and is a new experience, in which for a week you live with other players, which gives us time to get to know each other much more. In the end, we always try to enjoy it to the fullest.
In the team you will be almost the six best current couples in the world, combining veteran with youth. How do you see the national team this year?
Very strong ... Keep in mind that couple one, two and three in the world are Spanish and we are preselected ... Of couple four, half, six, whole. The truth is that practically the best players in the world are Spanish and that is a great advantage.
Do you think that you are the favorite maxims to revalidate title and even your maximum rivals, for that level of exigency that perhaps you can put?
Yes, with a view to playing the Open for Couples ... In the end, those who play the title are usually the Spanish but I am one of those who thinks that the competition is good to improve each other. No couple can rest on their laurels if they want to stay up there.
How have you experienced this start of the season, in which you have struggled to win your first title?
It was a tough start because, due to various circumstances, we didn't do the preseason as we would have liked ... The victories at the beginning weren't coming although we were reaching the end. Little by little we were feeling more comfortable on the track and that has resulted in us lifting trophies again. From Las Rozas we were feeling better and that, together with the increase in the load of the training sessions and in the quality of the training, made us get back to where we are. We are a couple who grow up in the face of adversity and we always try to overcome the problems that can affect us, making us stronger when facing the road. Personally, now I am in a moment of great confidence and it is something that is reflected on the court because you enjoy playing each point.
That strong character that accompanies both you and your sister, and that makes you overcome difficult situations, do you think you can help other players maybe younger in the selection?
Yes, well, that is something that we will value if we are finally on the list and seeing the other players that Icíar decides to go. We will always try to give the best of ourselves and if we can help with our experience in the selection, as well as provide those characteristics that you indicated, then much better. Maybe that strong character and leader we have makes that we can help at certain times to players who need it.
A wish that you have Mapi both personally and collectively for this World Championship?
The collective is that the team that finally takes is a joint that is united and that the title is lifted for the third time in a row. At the individual level, that the injuries respect us until then and that I can be selected to help my colleagues with my experience and my game.
