Matías Díaz and Maxi Sánchez had their well-deserved award in Mendoza… Award for work, for effort, for not lowering their arms, for believing in a project. Don't miss this great article by Óscar Solé, in which he pays his particular tribute to a duo that is an example in many ways.

Padel World Press .- They went through some potholes in the middle of the season, but the baggage is more than positive having reached five of the thirteen finals played so far, to get their first title in pairs in Argentina.

Be careful not to misinterpret the headline, but this way I consider Matías and Maxi, two 'Padel workers', two wrestlers who have been in the World Ranking privileges for many years without having innate abilities like many others, but with many skills acquired on the basis of work.

What a merit these two great professionals have. Because in this era of absolute dominance of Belasteguín-Díaz first and Belasteguín-Lima at present, they have managed to gain a place in the elite achieving important achievements with the different couples they have had in the last decade.

Parallel lives

In the case of Matías Díaz, he has been able to raise trophies with all his teammates since the beginning of Pádel Pro Tour in 2006. Eleven seasons in which this Argentine nationalized Spanish has been perfecting his style, with that claw that characterizes him and that has led him to nickname 'The Warrior'.

First was the stage of 'pechito con pechito' with Miguel Lamperti, in which his most memorable title may be that of 2010 in Mar del Plata. Then came the successes with Hernán Auguste, with whom he won his first trophy in Fuengirola at 2011.

His first partner in the 'Era World Pádel Tour' was Cristian Gutiérrez in 2013, with whom he had to adapt to a different style of play, but which also paid off to continue adding titles.

Last year he continued to swell his record in the company of Paquito Navarro and now comes the first twisted with Maxi Sánchez.

Maxi's career has some similarity. With 23 years showed his credentials with Gustavo Pratto, with a remembered triumph in Ciudad Real in 2010. In that meeting they eliminated the almighty Juan Martín Díaz and Fernando Belasteguín in the round of 16.

Then came the victories with his childhood friend, Sanyo Gutiérrez, to later have the opportunity to play nothing more and nothing less than the number 1, Juan Martín Díaz.

Maybe this was not his best stage, but he closed it in the best way, winning the 2015 Masters Finals. In addition, he has the privilege of being the only player who has won all the 'Tournament Masters' of the World Padel Tour era: the first two with Sanyo and the last with Juan Martín.

The fight with Sanyo and Paquito

In Mendoza we attended the seventh chapter of the season between the 2 and 3 pairs of the Ranking. And once again the parity that exists between these two pairs was demonstrated, in spite of the peculiarity that in none of their seven matches three sets were played.

In the first tournament of the year, in Gijón, Matías and Maxi won the semifinals by a double 6-4. The revenge was fulfilled quickly, in the end of Valencia, with two unforgettable tie breaks.

The domain of Sanyo and Paquito was extended in the following three tournaments in which the faces were seen: Las Rozas, Canarias and La Nucía.

But the story took a turn in just 7 days. In the last week, Matías and Maxi returned to level the balance. On Saturday 30 in October they defeated them in the semifinals of Zaragoza and yesterday they repeated a task in the Mendoza final.

We are approaching the end of a season that has a more than positive balance for these two 'Padel workers'. They have reached the finals in 5 of the 13 disputed tournaments (Gijón, Valencia, Monte Carlo, Zaragoza and Mendoza) and this has to be more than enough reason to continue believing in the work they do with the great team of professionals that surround them .

Congratulations, Matías and Maxi, for this first title they have suffered and enjoyed as always the other two members of the team, Alexia and Eliana, their wives, as well as their parents who have had the opportunity to see live and live the triumph of your children.

Cheers Champions !!

Óscar Solé.
