First big surprise of the inaugural tournament of this season. One of the newly created couples, one of those pairs called to fight for positions of honor in the WPT Rankings, have said goodbye to the Barcelona event much earlier than expected.
Padel World Press .- Everything happened in the last match of the morning shift of the round of 32. From the initial compasses, from the first games, it was reflected that the great favorites were going to have to surrender themselves in depth if they wanted to achieve victory and, in the end, despite their efforts, they were overtaken by highly motivated rivals.
When no one expected it, perhaps not even themselves, Toto Calneggia-Gerard Company became the first names of the tournament after defeating Cristian Gutiérrez-Maxi Grabiel by a tight 6-4, 2-6 and 7-6. An exciting tie break in the third and final set tipped the balance to the side of a couple who already know that in the second round they will cross their path with Borja Yribarren-Guga Vázquez.
No more shocks
On the other hand, in the rest of matches in the morning, the main seeds were leaving on the road to their rivals. To start, Gaby Reca and Seba Nerone defeated Hector Perona-Diego Ramos (6-3, 3-6 and 6-1) while Jaime Bergareche and Fernando Poggi were able to suffer before Marcello Jardim-Juan Lebron (6-7, 6- 2 and 6-3).
As for Uri Botello and Javier Concepcion, note that they ratified the ascending line that already started in 2014 and debuted with victory against Germán Tamame-Jacobo Blanco (double 6-2).
