When I speak of the 'Tapia phenomenon' I am not referring precisely to the phenomenon as a player, which undoubtedly is… but rather to what this young man from Catamarca generates. He is the player of the moment of Argentine paddle tennis and the maximum promise of this sport. In each club, in each field, in each city that I visit, there is no shortage of someone who asks: Do you know Agustín Tapia? How did you do in such a tournament? Do you know if they broadcast their match? Can you get me a souvenir of him?… Among many other things.
This provokes Agustín, World Champion and Pan-American Champion with the Selection of Minors Argentina, who made the leap of quality this year in the Fabrice Pastor Cup when reaching the final with his partner Luciano Solivérez, of 34 years, with whom he formed a pair solid, serious and with very clear objectives. The wisdom after so many years at the highest level of the Argentine Professional Circuit, experience and vision of Lucho game coupled with the immense talent, self-confidence and freshness of the Catamarqueño achieved that after 9 months together as a duo are the binomial to win in each tournament.
That final obtained in the Fabrice Pastor Cup, held at the Vilas Racket in February, gave Lucho and Agustín the opportunity to travel for the first time to compete in the World Pádel Tour, the Professional Circuit that brings together the best players of the world.
There everything was dreamed. After participating in the Challenger of Lisbon (Portugal) and the Master of Barcelona (Spain), 'coacheados' by Pablo Crosetti, they started from Pre-Previa in both tournaments and won marathon matches.
Agustín with his partner became one of the sensations during those days in Spanish lands and came to be in the mouth of all media and padel portals in the world. We are surprised because it is not a matter of everyday seeing a young man of only 17 years of age compete at that level and with those results in his first incursion to that level that is the elite of the world padel.
As not everything is the results in this sport, besides competing in tournaments of that hierarchy, Tapia had the possibility of living them from inside, sharing moments with the best in the world, watching them play live and even training with one of the members of the 4 couple of the world, Miguel Lamperti. Experiences that are not everyday and that mark a before and after in the career of an athlete.
After returning from that unforgettable tour, the first big event took him to the city of Santa Rosa (La Pampa). There they started off as the 2 number of the tournament and they were the couple that everyone wanted to see play after the sensation caused on their European tour. From the beginning they did not disappoint and they took the 1200 points that distributed the contest without giving sets. In the final they beat Santiago Frugoni y Gonzaa Alfonso, two young rising players who have regained their level and show what they are capable of doing by defeating the pre-classified 1 number of the tournament in the semifinals Nico Egea y Cristian Ozán for a double 6-4.
The final was 6-0 and 7-5 in just over an hour of play but beyond the result the show was wonderful. This generates Agustín Tapia, this young man trained by Andrés Pronzato in the Paddle Academy of Rosario, loved by each and every one of his teammates and characterized by his humility that he has everything in his hands to make history in this sport. For now, we only need to value it and take care of it because talents like that do not appear every day.
