The sixth installment of Julián Álvarez's articles arrives. Specialist in Physical Education and Sports Medicine, Nutritionist and member of the Nutrition Advisory Board of Herbalife International, this time will talk about nutrition in long matches or tournaments.

Padel World Press .- If you are a regular player (or veteran) of paddle tennis, you will often have been involved in a sea of doubts about your diet. Some players do not know very well what is the right nutrition for before, during and after a game and they ask themselves questions like what to eat before playing a game of padel? What is there to have breakfast? or what foods can sit better and which ones worse?

One of the most important aspects is to leave from 2 to 4 hours of margin between the last meal and the time to jump on the track, as we discussed in our first installment on general nutrition, to be as effective as possible in our games.

But today we are going to talk about the benefits of substitute shakes of food for that purpose, especially in tournaments where the schedules do not match the usual meals.

Meal replacement shakes are rich in nutrients and low in calories, making them very useful tools in many situations. With them we ensure a complete meal and fast digestion. In this way, it is not necessary to lengthen the times between lunch and the game so much, especially when it is time to play at odd hours or to which we are not used. This type of shake can also be used as an aid when there are a few kilos left over, replacing some of the main meals, for just over 200 calories. In addition, they are a very good option to have as a complete and healthy breakfast: the shake is easier, faster and more digestible than most of our breakfast formats.

We must take advantage of the opportunity that the breaks between the sets give us to replace what we can, and, although the ideal is something liquid like the shakes, many athletes comment that they need to "chew something". Then I recommend the protein bars. These bars contain around 10 g of protein of easy and fast absorption and rich in essential amino acids. It is an appetizer that, although it does not substitute a main meal, of course, it is ideal to take between meals or in a long training or rest of an intense match.

Knowing the benefits of shakes and bars, without a doubt they are a great complement that we can incorporate into our nutrition routine to face the training and matches of paddle in the best physical conditions ...
